Frequently Asked Questions

What is FOMR's relationship to the Mission Ridge Ski Area?

FOMR is independent from the ski area. However, we use the ski area often and are made up of former Mission Ridge ski patrollers, seasons pass holders, ski school teachers; our two-years olds have skied from the top of Mission Ridge. In short, we love the Mission Ridge Ski Area and want it to thrive.

How will the proposed development impact skiing at Mission Ridge Ski Area?

We've poured through hundreds of pages of the development's documents and agency assessments. When you dig into the details, it's clear that the project hopes to attract thousands of new skiers, while adding very little new terrain. Most of the new skiing is catered for ski in/ski out, slope-side condos. The "expansion" would eliminate ~100 existing public parking spots (including the Lake Clara Trailhead Parking) to make an access road across public land into private land. You would then need to drive a mile on private land to find new parking. We'll hold a public meeting in the coming months specifically focused on what skiers could expect from the development.

What are the plans the developer has for the newly acquired Section 13?

The current owner of the ski area purchase an additional ~640 acre section in January of 2025 (see map). To be clear, this is a new purchase, not the Tamarack development which is mostly within Section 19 and the surrounding Forest Service and WA DNR lands. We were hoping the developer would have brought up the purchase, and their plans for Section 13 during their public meeting held at Pybus in Feb 2025. We'll share any updates as we get them.

What else is FOMR working on?

FOMR is meeting with many local partners (discussing: public lands and access, water, elk, plants, recreation, night skies, sustainability, and more), meeting with elected officials, and gathering data to support the health of the upper  Stemilt and Squilchuck basins.
